A warm autumn day saw record numbers of entries at Farringdon Garden Club’s Summer Show with several first-time entrants taking part alongside the old-timers.

The professional judges awarded the FHS Award for best exhibit in the floral section to Mrs Judy Craig for her dahlias, while Dave Mattey received the FHS Award for best exhibit in the vegetable section where he exhibited his incredible potatoes (Anya or Fir Apple I forgot to ask him).

David Hartley takes the Challenge Cup for highest number of points in the vegetable and fruit class, and also receives the Challenge Cup for the Farringdon resident gaining the highest number of points in vegetables, fruit and floral, great work David.

New entrant Helen de Peyrecave received the Brian Williams Cup for vegetable specimens not otherwise included in the show schedule, while Cally Horton was awarded the Challenge Cup for highest number of points in the floral section (and she probably wasn’t even trying that hard). Ruth Stratford takes the Challenge Cup for highest number of points in the Cookery section seeing off hot competition with ease, well done Ruth.

Jules Moreton-Ford receives the Shield for highest number of points in the Handicraft section again for her wonderful creations.

The show proved popular with Farringdon residents who came to look at the exhibits without putting their hands anywhere near a garden or kitchen fork too. The Garden Club Chairman and Committee thank all those involved in helping set up the show in the church, those who entered produce and creations, all the prize-winners in almost every one of the 42 categories and those who entered but hope to have better luck next year.
